TCL Director Damian Schultz presented TCL's entry to the Global Competition for the Conceptual Masterplan of Jiangxi River Park in Chengdu Tianfu International Airport New City on Friday 21 September.
From 57 international entries, TCL with Chengdu Architectural Design and Research Institute was shortlisted with 4 other companies to submit a design proposal.
Since the presentation in Chengdu, TCL has been shortlisted to the final three entries, along with Sichuan Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute (SADI), and Rambo Studio Dreiseitl and China Southwest Architectural Design and Research Institute Crop. Ltd + SWA.
The TCL scheme "Healthy Park, Healthy People" recognizes the critical foundation for the Jiangxi River Park will be the restoration of the river corridor. The design creates an extraordinary place where the community can develop a deep connection with natural processes, flora and fauna. This relationship should engender a lifelong commitment to conservation, motivating people to make a difference to create a better world. In short, a healthy park leads to healthy people.
Cities of the future need to be resilient, carefully managing social, spatial and ecological outcomes. On this basis the park design considers people, comfort, landuse, access, energy, water, soil, flora and fauna and economic opportunities for the site. Built around the sustainability of the riparian corridor and bound by a scenic ring road, the design provides a range of activities for community use, including:
- Turtlestone National Park incorporating the Learning Forest, Turtlestone Campground and Nature Play
- Tianfu Botanic Garden
- Urban Waterfront featuring the Kong Zhu Arbor
- Cultural Event Terrace
- Eco Tourism Resort
- Urban Farm
- Wetland Sanctuary
The final results should be known soon.
