Melbourne’s first Shangri-La hotel development Sapphire by the Garden at 308 Exhibition Street is now under construction. TCL worked in collaboration with architects COX and Fender Katsalidis Australia on the entry plaza and garden for the new $565 million hotel being built on the former Telstra site.
A ground-breaking ceremony was held in October where the new Lord Mayor Sally Capp gave her blessing to the development and acknowledged the positive contribution the project will have on Melbourne’s skyline and growing tourism industry, before legendary Australian entertainer and singer Kamahl performed two of his greatest hits.
The plaza design reflects the development’s unique location at the edge of the CBD; straddling the confluence of garden and urban. The plaza comprises a terraced landscape that offers vibrant plant colours and textures throughout the year. The landscape will provide a memorable arrival setting for guests and residents alike.
The project is set to be completed over the next few years and construction has already begun.
