TCL has been selected to develop a plaza concept design for the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) in Sydney, home port for one of the most extensive collections of operational heritage vessels in the world.
The plaza forms part of a broader site transformation to establish the Maritime Heritage Precinct. The project includes the construction of two new wharves to accommodate the Australian National Maritime Museum and the Sydney Heritage Fleet, together with visiting vessels. The proposal also reconfigures the existing Welcome Wall, that stands in honour of those who have immigrated to Australia.
TCL's design will provide a new playful waterfront, connecting the ANMM with the Wharf 7 building and introducing visitors to the museum collection. The plaza materials and programs will be linked to narratives shaped by the sea, providing diverse outdoor interpretative experiences close to the water and the heritage vessels.
The team is now working on the development of a preferred concept.
