Project Title: The Quarries

The design of a regional play space which utilises quarry and industrial images from the site’s past to create elevated decks and bridges among constructed cliff faces, caves and tunnels.

The project involved consultation with local residents and sporting clubs to develop active and passive recreational spaces with particular emphasis on the design of a wide variety of play opportunities for children.

Our approach was to maximise play opportunities while using quality and crafted materials that stimulate children’s imagination and challenge them physically. Vandalism, maintenance considerations, disabled access and knowledge of safety standards all played an important part in our design process.
