Project Title: Lewis Residence

The Lewis residence is a modern two-storey construction with references to the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, occupying a large portion of the site the external areas of the site were extremely limited, giving little opportunity to move about the landscape or to create vistas.

The design is based on four themed escapes for the site; the framing of views leading the eye beyond the perimeters of the site, an orchestrated cohesion between the inside and outside spaces, a blurring of visible boundaries between reality and perception and the creation of a small oasis within the house.

A walled garden at the rear of the house adjacent to the internal living areas accommodates a swimming pool, barbecue area and outdoor dining area. These elements are arranged as horizontal bands within a series of overlapping planes to create a sense of depth in an otherwise narrow space.

A single magnolia tree, espaliered hedges and subtropical vegetation frame views, create linear planting patterns and seasonal change.
