Catherine Buddle is the 2023 TCL – Kevin Taylor Legacy recipient

Catherine Buddle has been selected as the 2023 TCL – Kevin Taylor Legacy recipient.  Along with a jewellery and visual art practice, Catherine has a background in biological sciences, scientific illustration, and graphic design.   Themes of science and nature have always been central to her work, with a particular fascination with cellular structure, repetition, and the possibilities of metamorphosis.

The legacy this year is sub-titled ‘Honouring Simon Brown’.   Simon a long-time staff member, mentor and friend of TCL, very sadly died of a terminal illness in early 2022, and this year’s grant will recognise his important contribution to landscape architecture and urban design,  and in particular his seminal involvement in TCL’s projects at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.  As an integral component of the residency Catherine will collaborate with Professor Michelle Waycott - the Chief Botanist at the State Herbarium – Adelaide Botanic Gardens.

An exhibition of Catherine’s work with be held at the conclusion of the residency, with jewellery works being gifted to Simon’s wife Bec Francis and daughter Mackenzie Francis – Brown.

TCL acknowledges all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people — the traditional custodians of the land on which we work. We respect their continuing connection to land, waters, and culture and recognise that sovereignty has never been ceded. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
