The revitalised parkland features a new & reconfigured lake edge, with a sealed base, extensive rain gardens, improved walking paths, and an improved event space.
At the heart of the design is a water recirculation and treatment system that continuously filters the lake water through ornamental rain gardens, ensuring that the lake maintains high water quality year round. This approach not only supports the lake’s ecological health but also enhances its resilience against issues common in closed lake systems, like algae blooms.
A new pipeline connects the water overflow from the Victoria Park/Pakapakanthi wetlands to Rymill Lake, providing a supply of treated stormwater. The water is stored in large underground tanks, ready to top up the lake when needed.
The project also includes a Lake Walk loop, inviting visitors to stroll under the shade of existing and newly planted trees along the water’s edge. Separate paths for cyclists and pedestrians strengthen connections to Adelaide’s trail network.
Completed just in time to host the Adelaide Equestrian Event, the renewed lake highlights Rymill Park’s role in South Australia’s premier events while showcasing Adelaide’s commitment to creating vibrant, and environmentally conscious public spaces for the community.
